Health Records Technician

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skill, Experience)
-Successful completion of a two year Health Information Management Diploma
-Currently Certified with the Canadian Health Information Management Association
-Member in good standing with CHIMA, including completion of required CPE credits
-Minimum of one year recent related job experience
-Recent hospital coding experience preferred
-Intermediate skill in computer programs such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint), and Internet (CIHI online query, Postal Code Lookup)
-Intermediate to advanced skill in Abstraction Software (Med2020- Winrecs)
-Demonstrated advanced skill in Folio (ICD-10-CA, CCI)
-Demonstrated knowledge of various applicable legislative acts (Public Hospital's Act, Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act)
-Advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology
-Understanding and knowledge of the complicated funding formula components (HIG, CMG, QBP) regarding Health Services Funding Reform
-Satisfactory Attendance

ACCOUNTABILITIES (Major Responsibilities of the Position)
-Codes disease and procedures using ICD10 according to CIHI, Ministry of Health and departmental guidelines
-Abstracts information on computerized abstracting system according to CIHI, Ministry of Health and departmental guidelines
-Initiates data quality guidelines for all abstracted data to ensure accuracy of documentation, coding, and length of stay data
-Performs audits, studies, and research as required
-Responds to requests for patient information according to legislation and departmental guidelines
-Performs quantitative analysis of charts according to legislation, departmental and medical staff guidelines
