POSITION:
Nurse Practitioner

DEPARTMENT:
NP - Primary Health Care

BARGAINING UNIT:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skill, Experience)
-Current certificate of competence as an NP-PHC or Adult with College of Nurses of Ontario registration in the Extended Class.
-Baccalaureate in Nursing (BScN), Masters Degree in Nursing (MScN or MN.) preferred
-Knowledge of Nurse Practitioners' Standards of Practice as set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
-Member of RNAO with professional liability insurance.
-Experience in the hospital setting, with a Critical Care or Emergency Care background.
-Advanced clinical judgment and comprehensive skills in triage, assessment, examination and treatment, with the ability to effectively adapt to constantly changing and unpredictable situations.
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
-Effective interpersonal listening, time management, organizational, teamwork, leadership, problem solving and networking skills.
-Demonstrated ability in program/service development including planning, implementation, evaluation and promotion.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as computer literacy
-Satisfactory attendance.

ACCOUNTABILITIES (Major Responsibilities of the Position)
-To function as a Nurse Practitioner working in collaboration with other health care professionals to enhance the provision of quality care.
-To manage, direct and provide comprehensive health care for individuals and families who visit the department.
-To consult with a physician or other health care professional when the patient's condition requires care beyond the NP's scope of practice.
-To act as a role model and provide leadership in clinical practice, education, research and quality management.
