Orthopaedic Technician

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skill, Experience)
-Successful completion and certification of recognized Orthopedic Technologist education course.
-Member of a Regulated Health Profession.
-Current Registration/Certificate of Competence/Registration with the relevant College.
-Registration/member of Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists.
-Current BCLS certification.
-Satisfactory attendance.

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES (Personal Skills and Attributes)
-Recent hospital experience (within 3 years), experience with care of orthopedic patients.
-Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and application to patients with orthopedic conditions.
-Knowledge and application of wound prevention and care within scope.
-Knowledge of normal patient response and recovery and complications or unexpected conditions or outcomes.
-Ability to request and accepts direction as required.
-Critical thinking skills and recognition of need to consult/refer to physician, Registered Nurse, and/or other health professional.
-Effective communication and organizational skills.
-Computer skills which include documentation, use of outlook/email, intranet.
-Effective planning, decision making and analytical skills.
-Demonstrated ability to support and embrace the philosophy of Service Excellence and Patient and Family Centred Care.
-Demonstrated participation in building a culture of safety and partnering with each other to improve the safety of patient care processes and systems.
-Demonstrated performance reflecting the Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

ACCOUNTABILITIES (Major Responsibilities of the Position)
-Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Ambulatory Care, this position works with physicians and other
health care team professionals in the care of patients with orthopedic injuries.
-The roles and responsibilities are identified as a controlled medical act by the Regulated Health
Professions Act (RHPA), and are delegated through a Medical Directive of the Orthopedic surgeons.
-Functions within the scope of practice of Professional College Standards according to RHPA and
Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists, according to delegated responsibilities of Medical
-Provides care with required and competency level (skill and knowledge0 in each patient
