ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skill, Experience)
-Current Certificate of Competence as a Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
-Canadian Diabetes Educator Certificate (Certified Diabetes Educator) required.
-Demonstrated evidence of knowledge of current concepts of Diabetes Management.
-Demonstrated experience educating patients with diabetes
-3 - 5 years experience with Adult and/or Paediatric Education.
-Demonstrated ability to lead groups effectively.
-Demonstrated ability to provide information in a creative sensitive, flexible and innovative manner, conducive to learning.
-Satisfactory attendance.

ACCOUNTABILITIES (Major Responsibilities of the Position)
-Develop, plan and implement, provide and evaluate educational activities for patients and/or their families in the form of individual and group counseling for diabetes education.
-Provide clinical consultation for patients, families and other nursing and professional staff.
-Provide leadership in clinical excellence applying a best practice approach for teaching the diabetic population and significant others.
-Communicate with other health professionals to integrate nutrition care services to meet patient needs by following charting procedures, participating on interdisciplinary rounds, special meetings and grand rounds.
-Provide coverage for inpatient dietitians as necessary
-Provide and evaluate direct patient and family nutrition counseling as part of the nutrition care process.
-Act as a resource to colleges and support staff to promote nutrition care.
-Participate in departmental meetings and participate as a member of hospital and other committees as required.
-Educate nursing staff, physicians, nutrition services staff and other health care individuals concerning nutrition care policies and procedures in areas of responsibility.
