ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skill, Experience)
- Degree in a health related field or health policy or business/public administration
- Certification/Diploma in OH&S from an accredited College or University
- Canadian Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN- (C) or equivalent designation) an asset
- Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario an asset
- Minimum of 5 years of previous progressive experience in an Occupational Health and Safety Department, or Disability Management department preferably
within an acute care facility, including accident investigation and reporting, radiation and laser safety, industrial hygiene programs, ergonomics, designated substances and WHMIS Occupational Health and Safety experience
- Recent positions with supervisory or managerial responsibility preferably in a health care facility
- Demonstrated knowledge of Communicable Disease Surveillance Protocols, accident investigation and reporting, Modified/Transitional Work Programs,
industrial hygiene programs, ergonomics, designated substances and WHMIS
- Extensive experience and knowledge in WSIB claims management (Occupational) in addition to Disability case
- Satisfactory attendance.

ACCOUNTABILITIES (Major Responsibilities of the Position)
- Co-operating with and acting in an advisory capacity to all departments.
- Plan, develop, manage and evaluate comprehensive programs, which promote health, safety and wellness.
- Analyze employee incident/accident statistics monthly and implement prevention programs to reduce employee incident statistics.
- Establish and review policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current health and safety legislation.
- Participate on various internal and external committees, taking a leadership role, supporting the health and safety programs.
- Develop and conduct various health and safety training programs, revise as required to ensure programs are current and support best practice
- Review/Assess WSIB claim decisions and make recommendations. Managing occupational and non-occupational illness and injuries, short and long term disability claims, WSIB claims management, modified/transitional work programs.
- Ensuring privacy and confidentiality in maintained within the department regarding all information (written & verbal).
- Prepare annual budgets, monitor monthly budget
- Manage staff resources of the Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness department.
- Provide direction and resources to Directors, Managers, Supervisors regarding the development of general and department specific health and safety
programs.
- Liaise with Occupational Health Physician
- Direct the activities surrounding various vaccination program such as influenza, hepatitis B, tetanus etc. ensuring medical directives are completed and
signed, as directed. Direct the Occupational Health Nurse in the event of a communicable disease outbreak/incident, if health care workers are impacted.
- Represent employer in WSIB appeals.
